I bought my home in 2022, just before interest rates rose. When prices in my neighborhood started falling, I looked into having my property tax assessment reviewed.
I spent hours searching Redfin and other sites for recent sales, then comparing them with my home. They’re useful for house hunting, but trying to build a property tax appeal with them felt like a job in itself. I still had to figure out which homes were truly comparable and how much the differences mattered. I wished I could wave a magic wand and have all that research taken care of.
My first appeal got me $6,700 back. I was glad I’d done it, but the research took far more time than I expected. I kept thinking there had to be an easier way.
